'Ulysses' batters NCR, C. Luzon; slightly weakens before exiting landmass


Typhoon "Ulysses" has weakened Thursday morning and is about to leave the landmass of Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 8:00 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said “Ulysses” was located in the vicinity of Cabangan, Zambales.

It is moving west northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour (km/h with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 215 km/h.

PAGASA said “Ulysses” is also expected to slightly intensify as it moves over the West Philippine Sea away from the landmass.

TCWS No. 3:

Pagasa said areas under TCWS No.3 will experience destructive typhoon-force winds while damaging gale- to storm-force wind will prevail in areas under TCWS No. 2.

Areas under TCWS No. 1 meanwhile will experience strong breeze to near gale conditions.

Metro Manila, CALABARZON, and Central Luzon will likewise experience heavy to intense with at times torrential rains until Thursday afternoon, according to PAGASA.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy with at times intense rains will prevail over the Cordillera Administrative Region, mainland Cagayan Valley, Babuyan Islands, Pangasinan, Marinduque, and the northern portion of Mindoro Provinces including Lubang Island.

Pagasa also warned of a possible storm surge over the coastal areas of Aurora, northern Quezon including Polillo Islands, Cavite, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, and Zambales, and up to 2.0 m over the coastal areas of Isabela, La Union, Pangasinan, Batangas, the rest of Quezon, Marinduque, and the northern portion of Mindoro Provinces including Lubang Island.

Typhoon "Ulysses" is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Friday morning or afternoon.
