SMART CLARK GIGA CITY--Coach Topex Robinson only wishes the best for former Phoenix player and now Blackwater standout Ron Dennison.
Robinson had a quick chat with Dennison after the former's Fuel Masters took down the latter's also-ran Elite, 100-95, to grab a quarterfinal spot Monday at the AUF Arena.
The 26-year-old guard played his first game against his former squad and although he was scoreless in almost 25 minutes, he was quick to catch up with Robinson and some of the Fuel Masters.
"We're just happy for Ron kasi nga he came from us, galing siya sa amin, 'yun ang first team niya and then nagkaroon siya ng separation kasi rookie siya, first time niyang ma-trade," said Robinson.
Phoenix picked Dennison in the second round of the 2018 PBA Draft and signed him to a one-year contract before dealing him in a one-on-one trade with Blackwater for Brian Heruela earlier this year.
With the development, the former FEU cager reunited with his college coach Nash Racela, who was tapped by the Elite late last year. He also joined former Tamaraws Mac Belo, Mike Tolomia and Richard Escoto.
Under Racela, the second-year guard is having plenty of playing time of 20.11 minutes per game usually for defensive purposes.
"What we reminded him lang is he's gonna be under the coach na tatay niya nung college," said Robinson, who was still an assistant coach to Louie Alas during Dennison's short stint in Phoenix.
"Now, he's flourishing in that team and we're just wishing him the best. Alam na rin niya 'yung role niya 'cause he's been a stopper. Kaya nga siya nasa loob it's because of his defense and coach Nash has been doing a great job on making use of Ron."
