COVID-19 cases surpass 5,000-mark in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental


BACOLOD CITY – This city and the province of Negros Occidental have each surpassed the 5,000-mark in the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

The provincial government reported over the weekend that it has recorded a total of 5,055 cases, as of November 8, while the city government here said that its own battle against the coronavirus has resulted in 5,032 cases being detected, as of November 9.

The province is under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), while Bacolod is under general community quarantine (GCQ).

Of the total number of cases in Negros Occidental, 773 were active cases, 4,139 were recoveries, and 143 were fatalities.

Those infected were comprised of 766 locally stranded individuals (LSIs), 238 returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), 58 Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APOR), 3,710 local residents, 252 frontliners, and 27 others still up for classification.

In Bacolod, the city government reported that the total number of COVID-19 cases corresponded to 0.86 percent of its population.

The City Health Office (CHO) said the total number of COVID-19 infections was comprised on 360 active cases, 4,525 recoveries and 147 fatalities.

The recovery rate in Bacolod was pegged at 89.92 percent of the total confirmed cases.

Last week, the local governments of Don Salvador Benedicto and Valladolid already declared their towns COVID-19 free.

The province is under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) while Bacolod is under General Community Quarantine (GCQ).
