Cebu City police to step up motorcycle patrols

CEBU CITY—With more people out on the streets following the easing of quarantine protocols, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will be reactivating its team of motorcycle-riding policemen.

Police Col. Josefino Ligan, chief of CCPO, said members of the team will undergo a short motorcycle-riding course before they will be deployed.

“It will be a short course that will serve as a refresher. This is part of our crime prevention efforts,” said Ligan.

Ligan said the deployment of motorcycle-riding policemen will be very timely after the city was placed under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) that allowed more people to go out of their houses.

“There are more people now in the malls, markets and other public areas. It is very timely especially that the holiday season is approaching,” said Ligan.

Ligan said motorcycle-riding policemen will be roaming around the city to spot would-be criminals.

“Suspicious activities such as vehicles with no license plates traveling around the city will be detected immediately. They will also serve as quick response team so when there are alarms or emergencies, they can respond right away,” Ligan added.

With the motorcycle-riding policemen, the CCPO is hoping to sustain the high crime solution efficiency rate that was recorded in October.

Ligan said that last month, the CCPO tallied 91.8 percent for its crime solution efficiency involving the eight focus crimes.

The eight focus crimes include murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, car thefts and motorcycle thefts.

“The high rating means that our police took action immediately. Crimes suspects were arrested and were charged with appropriate cases,” said Ligan.
