BACOLOD CITY – An alleged rebel was killed in an encounter between government troops and the New People’s Army (NPA) in Sitio Arum, Barangay Macagahay, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on Thursday, November 5.

The fatality was identified as Rio Jacaba, a member of the Yunit Militia of the NPA in Central Negros, according to the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade (303rd IBde).

The Army reported on Friday that a firefight ensued when troops of the 62nd Infantry Battalion (62nd IB) responded to a report from concerned citizens about the alleged presence of suspicious persons believed to be Communist terrorists in the area.

About three rebels and members of their Yunit Militia were encountered by the troops, which resulted in the death of Jacaba, whose body was left by his companions in their haste to escape, according to the Army.

The military also recovered a .45 Colt MK IV pistol, a holster, spent cartridges of .45 caliber, and subversive documents believed to be used during the conduct of “mass works” in the area.

Col. Inocencio Pasaporte, brigade commander, said that with the Moises Padilla Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MPTF-ELCAC), they will unify and harmonize the peace and development efforts especially with the different stakeholders to end the local communist armed conflict in the said municipality.

He also thanked the people of Barangay Macagahay for their vigilance.
