Congresswoman, 77, tests positive for COVID-19


A 77-year-old congresswoman has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently under home isolation in Quezon City, the House of Representatives reported Wednesday.

The lady solon’s identity was withheld.  She became the 90th among House officials and employees infected by the dreaded coronavirus disease.

She is also the 10th House member to be infected.

Also on Wednesday, the House Medical-Dental Service disclosed that two employees received test confirmation that they are positive for COVID-19.

MDS Director Dick Dizon revealed that a female employee from the office of Camiguin Rep. Xavier Jesus Romualdo tested positive for the disease. 

The congressional staff is 40 years old and resides in Malabon City.  She is under home quarantine, being closely monitored by the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT) in her community.

The 89th case of COVID-19 infection was that of a 43-year old congressional staff. 

Dizon said the infected staff “claimed to have been exposed” to a co-employe had COVID 19.

Meanwhile, the congresswoman’s symptoms include “itchy throat with occasional dry cough; on and off tolerable headache relieved with paracetamol.”

She has been diagnosed with mild symptoms and advised to undergo home quarantine.

The Lower House has reported five deaths due to COVID 19, two of them lawmakers.

Last September, Reps. Francisco “Jun” Datol and Bernardita “Ditas” Ramos of Sorsogon died due to complications triggered by COVID 19.

Aside from the three solons, also infected and recovered from the disease were Reps. Luis “Jonjon” Ferrer (NUP, Cavite); Samier Tan (PDP-Laban, Sulu); Mujiv Hataman (NP, Basilan); Johnny Pimentel (PDP-Laban, Surigao del Sur); Paul Daza (NUP, Northern Samar); Eric Pineda (1Pacman Partylist) and Henry Villarica (PDP-Laban, Bulacan).
