CAMP DANGWA, Benguet – An acting barangay chairman, who had taken over when his predecessor was killed earlier this year, was himself shot dead by two unidentified gunmen in Barangay Lipcan, Bangued, Abra, on Tuesday, November 3.

Police Regional Office-Cordillera Director Brig. Gen. R’Win Pagkalinawan identified the victim as Jason Bergonia Garcia, 34, of Barangay Lingtan, Bangued, Abra.

Pagkalinawan said Garcia was on this truck at around 6:15 a.m., and was traversing the Abra-Ilocos Sur road, when two gunmen onboard a motorcycle cut his path and shot him twice in the head.

The victim was rushed by residents at Abra Provincial Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Bangued Municipal Police Station is now conducting hot pursuit operation for the possible arrest of the suspects.

The police were still looking into the motive for the killing.

It was learned that Garcia, who was his barangay’s first kagawad, was appointed as acting chairman, after the elected chairman was killed earlier this year.
