The Azkals Development Team picked up its first points in the Philippines Football League after a 2-0 victory over Mendiola FC 1991 on Tuesday at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

Jarvey Gayoso and Matthew Custodio found the back of the net in the second half to secure the full three points after pair of 1-0 defeats to open its stint inside the PFL bubble.

With the result, ADT momentarily put itself on level terms with fellow PFL debutant Maharlika-Manila at three points apiece.

Coach Scott Cooper and ADT were hailed for putting up solid efforts in defeats to title favorites United City FC and Kaya-Iloilo before reaping the fruits of their labor against Mendiola.

Known as a striker during his decorated UAAP career with Ateneo before being converted into a left back by coach Scott Cooper, Gayoso returned to his goalscoring ways with a header off a cross to put ADT up 1-0 in the 73rd minute.

ADT’s second came eight minutes later when Gayoso’s free kick was saved by goalkeeper Kenry Balobo before Custodio came through with the rebound.

It was the second straight loss for Mendiola, which opened the PFL season last Saturday with a 6-0 loss to United City.
