Ambuklao, Binga, and Magat dams release water as ‘Rolly’ continues to dump rains


Three Luzon dams released water from their reservoirs on Sunday at the height of the onslaught of Typhoon “Rolly” (international name “Goni”), which continues to induce heavy rains.

Data from the Flood Forecasting and Warning Section of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) showed that one gate each opened in Ambuklao and Binga dams in Benguet as of 9 a.m. Sunday.

Ambuklao Dam's gate had an opening of 0.5 meters as its water level reached 751.37 meters around 8 a.m. Ambuklao Dam's water outflow goes down to Binga Dam.  On Thursday, its water level reached 751.87, just 0.13 meters short of its normal high water level.

A gate of Binga Dam was opened at one meter. Its current water level is 574.31 meters. On Thursday, its water level slightly increased to 574.79 meters from 574.45 meters.

Residents of Barangays Dalupirip and Tinongdan in Itogon, Benguet, as well as the concerned local disaster risk reduction and management office, were advised to take appropriate action.

The Magat Dam in Isabela, meanwhile, opened two gates at three meters. Its water level was 188.29 meters, slightly lower than its water level on Thursday morning at 190.95 meters.

Residents living near river channels and low-lying communities in the towns of Ramon, San Mateo, Aurora, Cabatuan, Luna, Reina Mercedes, Burgos, Naguilian, and Gamu were advised by PAGASA to take appropriate action in case of flooding.
