Negros town loses P2.4-M rice crops to ‘Quinta’


BACOLOD CITY - The onslaught of Typhoon "Quinta" left almost P2.4-million damage to agricultural crops in the town of Moises Padilla in Negros Occidental.

Based on the initial assessment of the Municipal Agriculture Office, rice production took the biggest hit at P2.2-million, damaging almost 70 hectares of land.

The town also suffered losses in corn production with P23,000 worth of damage, covering only 2.3 hectares.

Livestock and poultry also left P65,000 worth of damage, while high value crops left P31,000 worth of damage, covering an area of 1.10 hectares.

The town’s Prime Mover, amounting to P1.7 million, was also destroyed in a flash flood. It was found downstream of the Binalbagan river.

The Prime Mover was the only heavy equipment of the local government unit (LGU) that was used to transport other heavy equipment during project implementation.

The typhoon hit the town last week, which also resulted in the evacuation of 42 families composed of 170 individuals due to flooding.
