3 fishermen from Albay rescued in N. Samar; 7 others missing

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – Three fishermen from Rapu-Rapu town in Albay province were rescued in the waters off Laoang town in Northern Samar, Sunday afternoon.

The fishermen were identified as Michael Loyola Bilon,  28, Jessie B. Adornado,  32 and Rico B. Alamil,  41, both residents of Brgy. Gaba, Rapu-Rapu town, Albay province.

Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Managemen Office (MDRRMO) Staff Sonny Boy Lim confirmed to the Manila Bulletin that these fishermen were in the custody of Barangay Cahayagan Chairperson Ian Detera.

"Napadpad po sila dito sa amin matapos tangayin na malalakas na alon ng karagatan dahil sa bagyong ‘Quinta’ habang nangingisda ayon sa kwento nila," he said.

Aside from the three rescued fishermen, there were at least seven others still missing, as of press time.

"Di ko po alam kung magkakasama sila pero sa tingin ko magkakasama dahil alam nga nila," he added.

The photos of the 3 rescued fishermen were posted on the MDRRMO-Laoang Facebook page.

And as of late Sunday, the Manila Bulletin learned that the families of the rescued fishermen were already able to get in touch with their kin.

"Fortunately, the post reached some of their relatives and have already contacted us," MDRRMO-Laoang said.

As early as Friday, Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) had already issued a "no sailing" advisory due to the approaching weather disturbance.
