Nearly 15,000 new recoveries added to PH COVID survivors


The Philippines has witnessed another sharp increase in the number of people who have recovered from coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after 14,944 new survivors were announced on Sunday, Oct. 25.

The country’s recovery count now stands at 328,036, the Department of Health (DOH) stated in its latest case bulletin. 

Another 2,223 got infected, raising the country’s cumulative caseload to 370,028. The number of active cases or those still receiving treatment are 35,015, of which, 82 percent are suffering from mild symptoms, 11.3 percent are asymptomatic, 4.2 percent are in critical condition, and 2.4 percent are in severe condition. 

Quezon City posted 112 new cases, topping Sunday’s list of areas with the highest number of new infections, followed by Laguna with 111, Rizal with 109, Cavite with 79, and Batangas with 74 more infections.

The number of fatalities in the Philippines due to COVID-19 jumped by 43 to 6,977. Twenty-nine of the new fatalities happened this month, while the other 14 deaths occurred in May to September. 

“Fourteen duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, nine were recovered cases. Moreover, 11 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths. These numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation,” the DOH noted. 

There are a total of 151 licensed laboratories in the country that can perform COVID-19 testing. These already tested 4,308,007 people in the country as of Oct. 25, the DOH said. 

The World Health Organization (WHO) said there have been 42,055,863 confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally, including 1,141,567 deaths as of Oct. 24.
