Ipo Dam conducts emergency water discharges

Water level in Ipo Dam has reached its spilling level prompting authorities to conduct emergency water discharges starting 12 midnight, Oct. 26.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a hydrological dam situationer for Ipo Dam, which noted that the water level of Ipo Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan has reached 101.06 meters at around 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25.

The dam’s spilling level is at 101 meters.
“Ipo Dam management will conduct spilling operation at 12 a.m. with initial approximate discharge of 47 cubic meters per second,” PAGASA said on Sunday night.
Residents living along the low-lying areas and in communities near Angat River, particularly Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel, and Hagonoy, were advised to take precautionary measures and remain alert for possible increase in water level.
PAGASA and Ipo Dam management said they will continue to monitor the hydrological condition of Ipo Dam as typhoon “Quinta” traverses Southern Luzon from Sunday evening until Monday afternoon and bring significant rains over most parts of the country.
