Marikina sends off 12 city cops

Twelve policemen who served the Marikina City police force for five years have been reassigned to their home provinces as part the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) localization program.

Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro led the sendoff ceremony for the 12 cops who are mostly from Northern Luzon.

“Every policeman dreams of serving the town in which they grew up. I believe that if our police officers are assigned to their respective towns, they will improve their work even more because they love the place where they grew up,” Teodoro said.

Under the PNP’s Localization of Assignment program, qualified police officers will be given new assignments in their hometowns or areas near their permanent residence.

Before leaving for their respective hometowns, Mayor Teodoro said the city government provided the cops with free reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test aside from financial assistance as a token of gratitude for their service to the city.

Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, local policemen have been deployed to man border control checkpoints in Marikina and strictly implement minimum health protocols, on top of their responsibilities of maintaining the peace and order in the city.

Police personnel were also assigned in areas under lockdown due to high number of COVID-19 infections, and ensure that people stay in their homes.
