‘Oplan Katok’ nets 85 firearms in San Juan

The San Juan City police will present on Thursday (Oct 22) to Mayor Francis Zamora the 85 firearms they have recovered through “Oplan Katok.”

The presentation of the 85 confiscated firearms will be made at the San Juan City Hall Atrium and will be surrendered to Eastern Police District Director Gen Johnson Almazan.

According to Zamora, the 85 firearms recovered by the police included nine rifles, nine shotguns, 19 revolvers, and 48 pistols at the start of the Oplan Katok campaign last January.

Zamora said that the police campaign is also part of the city government’s peace and order program.

The mayor explained that Oplan Katok is a campaign wherein police personnel will go house-to-house to visit firearm holders who have not renewed their license.

The mayor added that police will then advise gun holders to renew their permits or have their guns stored in police vaults for safekeeping.

Zamora assures city residents that even the country is still in the middle of pandemic and curfew hours are shortened from 12 midnight to 4 a.m., the city government, through the local police, is still dedicated to maintain peace and order in the locality.

He said that a significant decline in crimes was reported this year with only 80 recorded incidents of the eight focus crimes: murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, and carnapping of motorcycles and cars.

The mayor said that San Juan has the lowest crimes recorded from January to September this year based on the records of the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO).

Zamora is urging gun owners to renew their firearms’ registration six months before its expiration date to prevent revocation and perpetual disqualification from applying for license.
