BACOLOD CITY – A manhunt operation is ongoing for the capture of a detainee, who escaped from the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental last week.
The escapee was identified as 23-year-old Reco Layan, who was arrested in July this year for murder.
According to Lt. Wilma Silva, Negros Occidental police deputy public information officer, Layan complained that he was not feeling well on October 14
while inside the jail, prompting the jailer to release him for a while to subject him for medical examination.
Layan was not handcuffed, as he was just within the vicinity of the police station, and was allowed to roam around and to breathe in fresh air, hoping this would ease his condition, Silva said.
However, Layan was able to escape and fled on board a motorcycle that was parked just outside the gate of the police station.
Silva said police tried to chase him to no avail. “Parang ang bilis lang nung nangyari,” she added.
A cash reward of P20,000 was offered by the police to anyone who can give information to locate the whereabouts of the escapee.
Silva said the jailer, desk officer, who were on duty at that time, as well as the police chief were subjected to investigation to determine if they had lapses in doing their jobs.
