House Appropriations committee chairman and ACT-CIS partylist Rep. Eric Go Yap defended Sunday (Oct. 18) the Department of Public Works and Highways’  P67-billion allocation for the construction of multi-purpose buildings next year.

The House leader defended the DPWH after Senator Panfilo Lacson questioned the funding allocation for the multi-purpose buildings in the department’s  proposed P666.47 billion budget for 2021.

“Ang ginalaw ng DPWH ay hindi pondo ng DoH, hindi ‘yung pondo ng DepEd, within their funds po. ‘Yung multi-purpose buildings yan po ang gagamitin natin na temporary quarantine facility para sa COVID,” he told the DZBB in an interview.

Yap said the DPWH’s allocation for the multi-purpose buildings will not any way affect the current COVID-19 response of the DOH, even as he clarified that the lawmakers have nothing to do with the funding.

He said no congressman told the DPWH, “’You give this to us.’ It is the DPWH that made the errata.”

He maintained that the amendments to the proposed P4.5 trillion national budget for 2021 will come from the government agencies  and not from the lawmakers.

After four days of marathon deliberations, the House of Representatives, voting 275-6 with no abstention, approved the  House Bill No. 7727 or the 2021 GAB
