48 candidates vie for Miss Universe Philippines in Baguio


BAGUIO CITY – Three years after this city hosted the pre-pageant events of the 65th Miss Universe staging in the Philippines in 2017, the city will again host beauties vying for the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 titles.

The preliminaries and grand coronation will be held at the Baguio Country Club and will be carried by a television network on October 25.

Twenty four candidates are arriving Thursday for the first batch and another 24 candidates will arrive on Friday, October 16.

They will be holding photo shoots at the La Trinidad Strawberry farm which is about six kilometers away from the city.

Baguio Country Club General Manager Anthony de Leon said that all candidates will be staying at the BCC from October 15 to 25.

After the photo shoot in La Trinidad, all their activities will be confined at the club and the public will be restricted from all the events as a safety precaution.

De Leon assured that the resort is enforcing strict safety protocols and only candidates, organizers and staff, and the television crew will be present during the pageant and the coronation night.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong assured that the organizers and the participants, including their staff, chaperons, and the crew of the covering television network will have to pass through basic border protocols and triage before entering the city. They will also need to go through testing and yield negative results before they are allowed entry into the city.

He said there will be no live audience during the coronation event on October 25.

A Saint Louis University student who was crowned Miss Baguio in 2015 will represent the city in the pageant.

Bea Theresa Peralta Maynigo, 24 year old, is a former Ambassadress of Goodwill Philippines 2015, Pangasinan’s Top Model in 2017, Miss Tourism Global Philippines 2018, Miss Magic 2018 and Miss Tourism Global 1st RU.

For the first time ever in national pageants, all preliminaries will take place in one venue.

The preliminary interview will be on October 21, the National Costume, Swimsuit and Evening Gown competition on October 23, and the Grand Finals on October 25 will be filmed at the BCC.
