Online learning tools and medical supplies are exempted from import duties and taxes

Desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and other gadgets donated to public schools, including state universities and college, and vocational institutions under TESDA are exempted from import duties and taxes, said the Department of Finance (DOF) yesterday.

This is under the Customs Administrative Order (CAO) N12-2020, which Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez has recently approved.

Under this order, even medical supplies that are used to fight the spread and treat for COVID-19 are also exempted from taxes and import duties, until December 19.

The exemption of taxes and duties of online learning tools and medical supplies fall in line with the Republic Act 11494, also known as the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act, which seeks to combat COVID-19. The online learning tools donated to public schools will allow students to continue their education without skipping the year.
