CA confirmed promotion of 30 AFP senior officers


The Commission on Appointments approved on Wednesday the promotion of 30 senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The military officers were confirmed upon the recommendation of the CA's Committee on National Defense, which deliberated earlier on the same day their ad interim appointments.

"It has been determined by our committee that all of them are all fit and qualified, and all of them proved that they possessed the fitness, competence, integrity and other qualifications to hold the ranks to which they were appointed and nominated," national defense chair, Cavite Rep. Luis Ferrer IV said.

Of the 30 senior military officers, two were confirmed to the rank of major general; two were confirmed to the rank of commodore; and two to brigadier general;

Also, 22 were confirmed to the rank of colonel, which includes officers from the Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force, the Philippine Navy, and the medical corps.

Two other Navy officers were likewise confirmed as captains.

During the hearing of the CA's national defense panel, the officers were asked about the Philippines' claim in the South China Sea and China's reported harassment of Filipino fishermen within in the country's exclusive economic zone, among other national security concerns.
