Mati City reports 1st COVID-19 fatality

DAVAO CITY – The city government of Mati reported on Tuesday, October 13, its first suspected death from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

City Information Office Dead Ben Tesiorna said the fatality was a 67-year-old female patient, who had been recuperating from a stroke for years. She died Monday morning, October 12.

Tesiorna added that the patient passed away even before the result of her swab test could be released.

He added that the patient suffered from pneumonia, and was rushed at Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center. She was then swabbed.

“She, however, died later in the evening,” Tesiorna said.

He said the victim will be buried in accordance with the guidelines of the Department of Health (DOH) on COVID-19 patients.

The Incident Management Team (IMT) of the city is now conducting massive contact tracing on the patient’s close contacts and their secondary contacts.

Mati City Government recorded last week five new COVID-19 cases and three recoveries.
