Iloilo cop faces probe for firing gun inside police camp

ILOILO CITY—The Police Regional Office (PRO-6) here is investigating a high-ranking police officer for firing a gun inside a police training camp in Sara town, Iloilo province.

PRO-6 Director Brig. Gen. Rene Pamuspusan ordered an investigation into the actions of Maj. Terrence Paul Sta. Ana, assistant chief of PRO-6’s Regional Logistics and Research Development Division last October 8.

“PRO-6 does not tolerate any misconduct. With our intensified campaign on internal cleansing, we will ensure a fair investigation even if it involves one our commissioned officers,” Pamuspusan assured.

According to PRO-6 Spokesperson Lt. Col. Joem Malong, an initial investigation showed that Sta. Ana was drinking alcohol last October 8 at the Regional Special Training Unit (RSTU-6) compound when he reportedly fired his gun several times for still unknown reason.

Iloilo Police Provincial Officer Director Col. Gilbert Gorero confirmed the incident and said that he was waiting for the formal incident reports of both Sara Police Station and RSTU-6.

After the initial investigation of PRO-6, the case of Sta, Ana will be forwarded to the Regional Internal Affairs Service for possible formal administrative case.

Meanwhile, Sta. Ana is now under camp restriction at the police regional headquarters in Iloilo City. He has also turned over his service firearm.
