Maritoni Fernandez marks 20th year as cancer survivor

Cancer-free for 20 years now, seasoned actress Maritoni Fernandez admitted she still gets emotional whenever she goes to the hospital for her regular check-up.

“You’d think I’m used to the drill by now but every check up still brings with it a flood of emotions,” she shared on Instagram a few days ago.

Maritoni still feels “anxious” heading to the hospital every time she is scheduled for a check up.

She would go home “grateful” and “relieved” whenever her doctor gives her two thumbs up.

She then penned an appreciation message for her husband who drove her to the hospital, patiently waiting while she had her tests done.

“The Lord Jesus blessed me with a wonderful husband,” she said of Mon Dayrit, whom she married only last July via civil ceremony.

She added, “Thank you Jesus for the all clear. I am deeply grateful. When it boils down to it, you realize nothing truly matters as much as your health.”

Maritoni encouraged fans and followers to get themselves checked especially with October being breast cancer awareness month.

“I know it’s Covid and all but don’t delay your check ups. Set an appointment and go get it done. You can safely go as long as you prepare properly,” she reminded. “Nothing matters more than your own peace of mind. Remember always that early detection is key to surviving Breast Cancer.”
