Locsin in Beijing for official visit, talks with Foreign Minister Wang Yi


Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. is now in Beijing upon the invitation of Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi for an official visit from October 9-11, 2020, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.

It will be Locsin’s first official trip overseas since February 2020.

During his visit, Locsin and Yi are set to hold a bilateral meeting to discuss the advancement of Philippines-China cooperation and the revitalization of engagement across various fronts, under the “new normal”. 
 
In a brief statement, the DFA said both officials will also discuss “regional and global topics of mutual interest.”
 
The Chinese foreign ministry earlier announced that Minister Yi has invited Locsin, along with Indonesian Special Envoy and Coordinator for Cooperation with China Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif for an official visit to China amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
