organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).

The award was received by his grandson, Manila Bulletin Publishing Corp. President and Vice Chairman Dr. Emilio Yap III, at the 46th Philippine Business Conference (PBC) and Expo, the largest annual business gathering in the country by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).

This year’s PBC was held virtually for the first time due to the pandemic.

Yap was cited for his “remarkable contributions to several of Philippines major business industries and drivers of growth and development, including shipping, publishing, pharmacy banking and finance, tourism, and education, among others.”

“His professional and altruistic contribution as a businessman and philanthropist whose values and generosity touched the lives of many Filipinos and served as an inspiration ideal for fellow business Filipinos to espouse,” read the citation.

Other awards at the opening of the 46th PBC went to PCCI Chairman Emeritus Francis Chua, who received the Presidential Excellence Award for his unwavering efforts to support PCCI programs and initiatives.

PCCI President Ambassador Benedicto V. Yujuico, in an adlib citation, said the PCCI Board and its senior advisers approved the award for Chua. He said Chua has always been the one giving awards to deserving individuals and businesses.

“It is time PCCI gives you award yourself,” said Yujuico. For his part, Chua dedicated the award to all PCCI past presidents, Board members, the Secretariat, and the entire PCCI organization.

“This award is for all of us,” Chua said. ICCP also bestowed the Global Excellence Corporate Award to three conglomerates for their continuing efforts to help Filipinos and government fight the COVID-19.

The awards were given to San Miguel Corp., Andrew Tan Group of Companies, and National Grid Corporation of the Philippines. MIS Maritime Corp. and President Edgardo G. Lacson also received the ICCP Global Excellence Award.

Businessman Dr. Alfonso Siy was also awarded the ICCP Global Excellence Posthumous Award for his contributions in multiple sectors, especially in the manufacturing sector in the exports of products for the fishing industry.
