Severe tropical storm "Chan-hom" is no longer expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as it will gradually recurve northwest to northeast, away from the country.
In its final tropical cyclone advisory issued mid-Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the location of "Chan-hom" at 1,515 kilometers (km) east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.
It was initially forecasted to enter PAR on Wednesday but the latest track of the severe tropical storm shows it will be moving generally northwest until Thursday morning, then north-northwest in the evening before turning to a generally northeast track on Friday.
Although "Chan-hom" may still intensify into a typhoon Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, PAGASA said it is unlikely to directly affect the weather condition in the country.
However, strong northeasterly surface wind flow, a precursor of the northeast monsoon or "amihan," will cause rough to very rough sea conditions over the seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte.
PAGASA advised that sea travel is risky over these areas especially for those using small boats.
Meanwhile, the low pressure area (LPA) at 230 km east-southeast of Daet, Camarines Norte or 85 km east of Virac, Catanduanes will be the dominant weather system that may bring rain showers over some parts of the country.
PAGASA said the LPA will likely traverse Southern Luzon and Visayas but its chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours remains low.
