Rain showers and cloudy skies will prevail across many parts of the country this Wednesday as rain-inducing weather systems continue to affect the archipelago.
In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin issued on Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) was still monitoring an LPA at 320 kilometers (km) east of Daet, Camarines Norte.
The combined effects of the LPA and “habagat” may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, and Mindanao.
The public is advised to take precautionary measures in case of severe thunderstorm activity in the afternoon or evening as flash floods or landslides may occur, especially in high-risk areas.
The northeasterly surface wind flow, a precursor of the cold weather-associated northeast monsoon or “amihan,” will also bring isolated light rains over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Apayao, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino.
The rest of the country will remain warm especially from morning until noon but there is a high chance of experiencing isolated rain showers in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms and “habagat.”
Meanwhile, the severe tropical storm with international name “Chan-hom” near the northeastern part of the country remains outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as of Wednesday morning.
It was estimated at 1,600 km east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon at around 3 a.m.
Weather specialist Meno Mendoza said the probability of the tropical cyclone entering the PAR has lessened but PAGASA will continue to monitor this weather disturbance for possible change in its forecast track.
Severe tropical storm “Chan-hom” has no direct effect over any part of the Philippines.
