4.2-magnitude quake hits Siargao Island


BUTUAN CITY -  A 4.2-magnitude earthquake hit Pacific Ocean facing island of Siargao Wednesday morning, October 7, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded at 6:40 a.m. with the epicenter plotted 67 kilometers (kms) southeast of General Luna  town, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte province. 

The tremor had a depth of one km, Phivolcs said.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and no aftershock was raised by the state agency.

The Surigao del Norte provincial disaster risk reduction and management council (PDRRMC) there reported no damage or injury.

Meanwhile, a 4.0-magnitude tectonic earthquake was also registered at 8:32 a.m. also on October 7, and its epicenter traced 53 kms southeast of the same town and province, with a depth of 15 kms, Phivolcs also said, in its latest advisory.

No aftershock was raised by the state agency and the Surigao del Norte PDRRMC there also no reported damage or injury.
