1 dead, 10 injured in Antipolo road mishap


A vehicular accident involving a ten-wheeler truck, several tricycles, and other vehicles resulted in the death of a man and injured at least 10 persons on Wednesday afternoon (October 7) in this city.

According to police report, the driver of the 10-wheeler truck, identified as Marcelo Callejo Sr.,  apparently lost control of the vehicle and rammed into five tricycles, a Toyota Vios, an Asian utility vehicle, and motorcycle on Olalia Road near a supermarket at the City Market of Antipolo. The truck was reportedly traveling toward Cogeo Gate 2 in Barangay Sta. Cruz at around 3 p.m.

The truck was loaded with sacks of rice and was on its way to deliver its load to Barangay San Jose, also in this city, when the accident happened.

Relly Bernardo, head of the CDRRMO said one person died and several others were injured and rushed to the hospital.

Police identified the fatality as Florencio Perez through his identification card found in his possession.

The Police Community Precinct 2 of the Antipolo City Police said at least 20 persons showed up at the police station to file their complaints against the truck driver, either because of their injuries or their vehicles were damaged.

Some of the victims told police that they heard the continuous blowing of horn of the truck before they saw some of the damaged tricycles and the wounded victims inside the vehicles.

Relatives of the victims rushed to the scene of the accident to verify the whereabouts of their kins.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office told Manila Bulletin that the city government will be extending assistance to the victims.
