‘VP Robredo enjoys people’s support,’ says spokesperson

Vice President Leni Robredo’s spokesperson on Monday cited the same Pulse Asia survey to dispute the remark of his counterpart in Malacanang that she is politicking in this time of coronavirus pandemic.

Spokesperson Barry Gutierrez said the latest survey results showed Robredo was not politicking since she still got the public’s support.

“Tama naman. Kaya nga karamihan pa rin ng ating mga kababayan suportado pa rin si VP Leni (It is right. That’s why majority of countrymen are still supportive of VP Leni),” Gutierrez said.

“Malinaw kasi na kahit katiting ang budget ng opisina, patuloy ang panlalait at paninira, at panay ang pagpakalat ng fake news sa Facebook laban sa kanya -- nagtratrabaho pa rin siya para sa kapakanan ng marami,” he added.

In its survey, conducted last September 14-20, Pulse Asia said that 91 percent of Filipinos approved of Duterte’s
performance, up from his 87 percent in December 2019.

Robredo, on the other hand, had an approval and trust rating of 57 and 50 percent, respectively. She ranked second to the lowest among the country’s top officials in the survey.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said President Duterte’s high approval and trust ratings showed Filipinos are not appreciative of Robredo’s politicking, so he advised her to better refrain from doing it to boost her ratings.

“Naku Madam VP (Vice President), mukhang tama ang aking sinabi, ayaw ‘ata ng Pilipino ang namumulitika sa panahon ng pandemya (Madam VP, it seems what I’ve said is right, Filipinos don’t like politicking during the pandemic),” he said in a televised briefing in Boracay.

“Subukan po nating itigil ang pulitika baka po tumaas na mas mataas ang 50 percent ang trust rating at mas mataas pa sa 57 percent ang performance rating (Let’s try to stop politicking and maybe your trust rating will rise higher than 50 percent, and your performance rating will be more than 57 percent),” Roque added.

While she obtained lower ratings compared to other government officials, Robredo expressed gratitude to the public for their continued support to her.

"Nagpapasalamat kami sa ating mga kapwa Pilipino na patuloy kumikilala sa kanyang walang tigil na paglilingkod sa ating mga kababayan (We thank our fellow Filipinos who continuously recognize her relentless public service),” Gutierrez said.
