MCIA to consolidate operations at Terminal 1 starting Nov. 1

CEBU CITY – Starting November 1, all passenger and aircraft operations, including international departures, at the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) will be consolidated at Terminal 1 to enable MCIA to streamline operations and maximize terminal efficiencies during this period of reduced passenger traffic and aircraft movements.

Only international arrivals will remain at Terminal 2 due to the mandatory reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing and other required protocols for all arriving international passengers.

According to GMR MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC), the terminal operator of MCIA, the consolidation of operations in Terminal 1 will allow GMCAC to align capacity and resources more appropriately to the current level of demand and optimize the use of utilities to a manner more commensurate with current traffic, without sacrificing quality.

“As traffic on both domestic and international routes increases to near normalcy, GMCAC will revert to two-terminal operations, subject to the air traffic and passenger throughput,” GMCAC Chief Executive Adviser Andrew Harrison said in a media statement Thursday.

Harrison added that the effective time and date of the Terminal 1 consolidated operations will be at 12 a.m. on November 1, and this will remain in place until further notice.

Passenger signage and wayfinding will be modified over the coming weeks to support the consolidated operations and public advisories will be communicated via social media, website, and print media, GMCAC said.

Ticketing booths of international airlines currently situated at the Terminal Departures Level will be replicated in a designated International Airline Ticketing Lobby in T1.

Passengers are reminded to check with their airlines for the schedule of available flights and ensure that the required travel documents are complete before the scheduled date of travel.

“Health and safety protocols will be further enhanced to reduce contact and touch points through the passenger’s journey. We ask for your patience and cooperation as we continuously find ways to ensure the well-being of our passengers and airport staff when travelling through MCIA,” Harrison said.
