GMA’s new anthology ‘I Can See You: The Promise’ boasts of complex story, and fast paced execution

Teleserye lovers can expect a different flavor from GMA’s first post-COVID-19 offering through the upcoming installment in the anthology series “I Can See You” entitled: “The Promise.”

The one-week miniseries, which will begin airing on October 5, features Paolo Contis as Frank, a widower who lost his direction in life after his wife Clarisse (Yasmien Kurdi) dies. When his cousin Jude (Benjamin Alves) pays him a visit, accompanied by his girlfriend Ivy (Andrea Torres), Clarisse possesses Andrea to rekindle her love for her grieving husband.

According to the film’s stars, there are plenty of things to look forward to from “The Promise.”

Yasmien Kurdi said that filming the series was a different experience for her, not just because of the safety precautions and the preparations that the cast and production had to undergo because of the pandemic.

She said it was her first time to do a miniseries that will only run for five days, but what will grab audience’s attention is the twist.

“First time kong gumawa ng miniseries. Ang maganda dito sa istoryang ito, ang dami nyang twist. Yung isang buong story ng teleserye, nilagay nila sa isang lingo lang,” she shared.

Andrea Torres agreed and said that the story was so good that no actor would refuse the project upon reading the script. She said that the major challenge for viewers would be piecing together the clues that would lead to the revelation of the final twist.

For his part, Ben Alves said that the title of the series was an apt representation of their story since all the characters were involved in different promises to each other. The overarching theme of “I Can See You” also represents the different facets of the characters’ personalities when they are viewed through different lenses.

Director Zig Dulay said that he was thankful for the network for giving priority to the role of the production. He said that the actors were given the chance to collaborate with script readings and the approach to their roles before the shoot and he was even able to organize the scenes to be shot on specific days so everything went smoothly and safely for everyone.

Paolo Contis credits his co-stars with the great working atmosphere and director Zig Dulay for the overall success of their shoot, from the initial script readings and preparations that the team undertook until they started rolling.

“(Direk Zig) was a very good leader. During the script readings -- pagdatingko dun walanaakongkailanganggawin. Nahimay na namin lahat yung kwento. Ang laki laking bagay nun. Sobrang refreshing syasa craft naminnadumating kami sa set nahindinanaminkailanganghawakanyung script at nire- review na lang namin yung lines naming. Pag sinabing ito na yung eksena alam na namin kung nasan kami,” he said.

He said that the miniseries approach was a good idea for their project because the story progresses at a faster pace. He expressed confidence that the audience will appreciate this new method of storytelling because the team was able to explore a complex story well within a short span of time.
