Davao region records 48 new COVID-19 cases

DAVAO CITY – As the month of September ended, 48 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were recorded in the region on Wednesday.

Based on the Regional Situation Update on COVID-19 in Davao Region as of September 30, there were 38 new cases recorded in Davao City, six in Davao del Norte, three in Davao Oriental, and one from Davao Occidental.

Davao region has recorded a total of 3,076 COVID-19 cases, with 549 active cases.

Two deaths were also reported on Wednesday. One is from Davao City and the other from Davao del Sur. The region has recorded a total of 94 deaths due to COVID-19.

Acting City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte said the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in Davao City “is proof that the virus is still very much present in our communities.”

“As a result, our healthcare facilities are nearing maximum capacity,” he added.

The official reminded the public to follow the health protocols. “Gatherings are strongly discouraged at this time and for the upcoming All Souls’ Day, everyone is advised to visit their departed loved ones before October 29 and after November 4,” he added.

Meanwhile, 31 recoveries were reported on Wednesday bringing to 2,433 the total number of recoveries.

The Department of Health said 23 of these are from Davao City, five are from Davao del Sur, two are from Davao Oriental, and one from Davao de Oro.
