As part of the preparations for the May, 2022 polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday conducted a voting simulation activity for persons with disability (PWD) voters in Jolo, Sulu.
Comelec Commissioner Al A. Parreño, who chairs the poll body's PWD Voting Committee, said the activity aims to further enhance the voting process for PWDs.
"We are here to learn," he said.
"Through this voting simulation activity, we hope to come up with ways on how the Comelec can further enhance the voting process for our PWDs from access to the machines down to the improvement in facilities inside our voting centers," added Parreño.
He said the PWD Voting Simulation in Jolo "highlights the Comelec's intensified voter education efforts even in known election hotspots."
Comelec Commissioner Antonio Kho and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Regional Election Director Ray Sumalipao also joined Parreño in inspecting the PWD Voting Simulation in Jolo.
Comelec Sulu Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Vidzfar Julie thanked Commissioner Parreño and the Comelec PWD Voting Committee for choosing Jolo as one of the venues for the activity.
He said Jolo is host to some 2,000 PWD voters and has voting centers that are not as PWD-accessible compared to those in highly urbanized areas.
"We are honored to host this very important activity here in Jolo," he said.
"We thank Commissioner Parreño and the Comelec En Banc for their tireless efforts to promote greater access of our vulnerable sectors in our society to the country's electoral processes," Julie added.
The voting simulation was held at Salih Ututalum Elementary School in Jolo.
