This swimwear brand doubles as sexy pambahay

Three styling ideas that will give you an excuse to get your bikinis, one-pieces, and swimwear out of your closet

Early days into quarantine it seemed like everybody was lounging around in pambahay, or house clothes. As we all come to terms with the fact that this is the new normal, however, we have started dressing up at home even if it is just for ourselves (and for Instagram). Just because none of us have anywhere to go doesn’t mean the new dress we bought in January has to stay in the back of our closets.

The clothing item that nobody seems to have a use for, but that we all sorely miss, is swimwear. Or so I thought.

When I heard that a group of fresh college graduates was launching Unda Swimwear at the end of the month, I initially thought I misheard. For people living in the city, our beautiful, tropical oceans are still a dream away due to travel and gathering restrictions. But just because it is called swimwear doesn’t mean we need to add water for it to work. It is still clothing after all and, more often than not, cute clothing.

In honor of our favorite bikinis, one-pieces, and stylish swimsuits that have found their way to the back of our closets, here are three ways you can reimagine swimwear for the quarantine era:

Swim-to-gym

Home workouts are becoming more and more popular under quarantine. There are thousands of YouTube tutorials to be found online, as well as live group and one-on-one Zoom sessions offered by local gyms and studios. In order to get the most out of your clothes, whether you are staying in or stepping out, consider a swim-to-gym look.

Good quality, athletic swimwear doubles up as both poolside looks as well as workout attire. One day, beach getaways with friends and family will become a thing again. So there is no need to feel guilty about a swimsuit purchase now, especially when you can use your new clothes as you keep in shape for those future beach days.

Swimwear and chill

We all have our favorite ratty, seven-year-old t-shirt that we have been wearing again and again in the house during quarantine. Or is that just me?

What I am trying to say is that staying at home we often find ourselves wearing whatever is easy and uncomplicated. But as these days blend into one another for those working or studying from home, dressing up once in a while can help us get into a better mood.

Of course, nobody wants to get that dressed up. Lounging in swimwear can get you out of those sweats without sacrificing comfort. And if there are any surprise video calls, you are ready to answer.

Just because it is called swimwear doesn’t mean we need to add water for it to work.

The case for the bikini top bralette

The bralette used as outerwear is a fashion trend that does not seem to be going away any time soon. It easily adds something fashionable to an outfit, whether you pair it with high-waist or low-waist pants, or a maxi or mini skirt.

A bikini top can do just as well, especially if you are looking for something a bit easier to clean than the lacy bralettes usually sold.
