Baguio City posts another record high in number of new COVID-19 cases

BAGUIO CITY – This city posted another record in single-day number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) with 44 on Sunday, September 27, bringing the total to 779 confirmed cases, with 327 active infections.

Like in the previous days, majority of the new patients came from existing case clusters in households and barangays with 39 as contacts of current cases (CTs), four had symptoms, while one was the subject of expanded testing (ET).

Most of the new cases were from Barangay Lower Lourdes Subdivision with 17 new patients, who were contacts of nine cases recorded last September 24.

The city has also recorded 440 recoveries from COVID-19, and 12 fatalities.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong advised the public to continue wearing face shields and masks when going out of their homes to fortify their protection against the virus.

"Since face shields are already required in almost all establishments, it is just good practice to always have them and to wear them properly even when we are outside our homes or buildings,” he said.

"The virus remains out there and our thrust now is to learn to co-exist with it to go on with our lives under the new normal times," he warned.

Magalong earlier said the spike in cases was expected with the continuing testing and contact tracing efforts.

He said people have to take it upon themselves to ensure that they and their families are well protected at all times by adhering to all the established health and safety protocols including the wearing of these protective equipment.

He assured that the city's containment strategies on PDITR (Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treat, and Reintegrate) remain in full force to address the expected surge.
