DAVAO CITY – The act of kindness towards an old, homeless man by young sacristans, or altar servers, in a parish church in Mawab, Davao de Oro has gone viral.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, the provincial government of Davao de Oro shared the photos of the young sacritans of San Roque Parish extending assistance to a homeless man known only as “Totong” in Barangay Poblacion.

The young guys took pity on the street-bound Totong, and took him in to the parish where they gave him a haircut and a shave, a shower and a hearty meal.

The provincial government said Totong was a street dweller, who survived only from dole outs given by passers-by.

But that was until the young men took Totong under their wings.

Teotrician Gomez Batutay, one of the sacristan, said they took pity on him.

"Gitabangan namo siya kay naluoy mi ug aron makita namo siya nga hinlo (We pity him that's why we helped him, we also want to see him clean," he said.

The old man now lives under the care of the San Roque Parish.
