Samar LGUs seek extension of moratorium on return of LSIs


TACLOBAN CITY - The Samar Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has approved the request of 15 local government units LGUs) in the province for the extension of the moratorium on accepting locally stranded individuals (LSIs) from September 25 until October 8. 

At least 15 local government units, including Catbalogan City and Calbayog City, have requested the extension of the moratorium following the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the province.

The resolution has been forwarded to the Regional IATF for concurrence.  

The Department of Health in Region 8 (DOH-8) on Friday, September 25, said that 10 out of the 31 new COVID-19 cases in the region came from Samar. Of these, five came from Catbalogan City, three from Calbayog City, and one each from the municipalities of Jiabong and Sta. Margarita.

Twelve new cases were logged in Leyte province with two cases each from Alangalang, Babatngon, and Hilongos; and one case each from Burauen, Javier, Julita, Kananga, Pastrana, and Tolosa.

Meanwhile, two cases were also recorded from Liloan, Southern Leyte. 

Eastern Visayas has a total of 4,450 COVID-19 cases, 3,782 recoveries, and 41 deaths.
