Infant dies of COVID-19 in Davao City


DAVAO CITY - A 22-day-old male infant was among the four deaths reported due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Davao region on Wednesday, September 23.

Based on the profiles of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Davao region dated September 23, 2020, the male infant (nine days old based on the profile) had the onset of symptoms on September 2, and was admitted on September 10.

Dr. Elinore Concha of the Southern Philippine Medical Center (SPMC) told The Manila Bulletin that the baby was 22 days old when he died.

The baby from Barangay Pampanga here died on September 23. According to the profile, the child's history of exposure was still under investigation.

Three other COVID-19 related deaths were recorded in Davao City on Wednesday, including a 59-year-old man from Barangay 10-A, who died on September 22; a 73-year-old man from Toril, who died on September 20; and a 66-year-old man from Cabantian, who also died on September 22.

Meanwhile, one death was also reported in Davao City on Thursday, September 24. The DOH, however, has not yet released the profile of the latest cases.

Davao region currently has recorded a total of 83 COVID-19 deaths. Sixty eight of these were from Davao City, five each were recorded in Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur, two each in Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental, and one death was reported in Davao Oriental.

As of 5 p.m., Thursday, the DOH Davao Center for Health Development has reported 61 new cases of COVID-19 in the region, bringing the total number of reported COVID-19 cases to 2,837. The DOH said the active cases in Davao region is at 481.

There were also 37 recoveries reported on Thursday.

"Among these, 20 are from Davao City, 11 are from Davao Oriental, three are from Davao del Sur, two are from Davao del Norte, and one from Davao de Oro," the DOH said.


The region has recorded a total of 2,273 recoveries.
