2,833 new COVID-19 infections logged

The total number of COVID-19 cases nationwide reached over 294,000 after the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed  2,833 new infections.

The DOH said that the number of COVID-19 cases in the country increased to 294,591 since the first infection was detected last January. Of this figure, 58,127 are active cases, wherein 86.5 percent  are mild, 9.2 percent are asymptomatic, 1.3 percent are severe, and 3 percent are in critical condition.

Majority of the new cases were still found in the National Capital Region with 1,222 new infections, followed by Cavite with 228, Negros Occidental with 206, Batangas with 143, and Bulacan with 141.

Meanwhile, the tally of recoveries soared to 231,373 after 765 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease.

The death count also climbed to 5,091 with 44 new fatalities. Of the new deaths, “21 occurred in September, 14 in August, six in July, two in June, and one in May,” the DOH reported. 

The DOH said that 31 duplicates were removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 21 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified to deaths (16) and active (5) cases after final validation. There is also one case that was previously reported as death but has been validated as recovered,” it added.
