Anticipating that there might be new challenges that will emerge on and after the Oct. 5 school opening, Education Secretary Leonor Briones gave assurance that the Department of Education (DepEd) is taking the necessary measures to respond to these issues accordingly.
“It’s not as if we’ll be caught by surprise,” Briones said when asked how the DepEd is preparing for the school year (SY) 2020-2021 opening. “We have responded and we have been preparing,” she added.
Briones said that the readiness of the DepEd is being questioned repeatedly especially during this time of uncertainty due to COVID-19. Ever since the pandemic struck, she cited how DepEd anticipated the disruption in education this school year.
“The public, the parents have been raising questions and complaints ,” Briones said. “We have recognized these concerns, we have responded to these and we will continue to do so as other challenges emerge on Oct. 5,” she added.
While the Aug. 24 deferment of school opening added to months-long disruption in education, Briones said that this gave the DepEd “more time to prepare.”
