The Paranaque City government formally opened dedicated lanes for bicycles and motorcycles along the stretch of Dr. A. Santos Avenue.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez joined a group of bikers Saturday (Sept. 19) to formally open the bicycle lane.
After City Ordinance No. 2020-23 designating the outer lane of Dr. A. Santos Avenue and Ninoy Aquino Avenue as motorcycle lane and a portion of it as bicycle lane was approved by the City Council, the City Engineering Office started placing markings on the 1.5-meterwide bike lane on both sides of the road.
The outermost lane of the 12-kilometer Dr. A. Santos Avenues and the inner lane will be for private vehicles while the center lane will be for the exclusive use of delivery trucks, vans and other vehicles.
Under the ordinance, motorcycle riders who violate the ordinance will be covered by the No Contact Apprehension Policy of the city government and shall be fined in the amount of P1,000 per offense while bicycle riders who go out of their lanes will be fined in the amount of P500.
