Araw ng Anini-y celebration on Aug. 5 proposed


Deputy Speaker and Antique lone District Rep. Loren Legarda has filed a bill declaring August 5 of every year as a special non-working holiday in the municipality of  Anini-y, Antique in commemoration of its founding anniversary.

She filed House Bill No. 7642 seeking to designate August 5 as the “Araw ng Anini-y” in her home province.

“The people of Anini-y request the declaration of such non-working holiday, to be known as the “Araw ng Anini-y”, as this occasion will give full opportunity for the people to celebrate, commemorate, and give due honor to the late Hon. Juan C. Obaga, the founding mayor of Anini-y and the other officials who succeeded him,” Legarda said in her bill’s explanatory note. 

She said August 5 marks the celebration of the founding anniversary of Anini-y as a separate municipality from the town of Tobias Fornier.

“As a manifestation of this Representation’s support for the people of Anini-y, this bill is being proposed to allow for the celebration of this annual festivity  that will showcase the rich history, heritage and culture of the municipality,” Legarda said.

HB 7642 provides that August 5 of every year is declared to be a special non-working holiday in the municipality of Anini-y in the province of Antique, in commemoration of its founding anniversary, to be known as “Araw ng

Anini-y.”

According to the measure, when the holiday falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, the holiday shall be observed on the Monday that follows. 

The proposed Act shall take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.
