16 more Filipinos abroad infected with coronavirus


The Department of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday reported 16 new confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases and 13 recoveries among Filipinos abroad.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases involving Filipinos overseas to 10,339 as of September 16, 2020. 

No new fatality was recorded in the DFA’s latest tally. 

In its report, the foreign affairs office said the numbers of confirmed and recovered cases have been adjusted following an updated report it received from one of its posts in Europe.

Also, the total of countries and regions with confirmed cases among Filipino nationals has climbed to 77 with a new report from an additional country in Africa.

Of cases among Filipinos abroad, 6,581 have recovered, 2,885 are undergoing treatment and 773 died of COVID-19 infections.

The combined regions of the Middle East and Africa remain on top with the highest number of COVID-19 infections among Filipinos (7,027) followed by the Asia Pacific (1,332), Europe (1,173), and the Americas (807).
