Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has presented some options to President Duterte on how to address the plight of overseas Filipino nurses amid the deployment ban.

In a Facebook Live virtual presser Saturday, Nograles said the IATF is coordinating with the Office of the President about the request of health workers to lift the ban on their deployment overseas.

“May mga options po kaming binigay kay Pangulong Duterte at abangan na lang po natin kung ano ang magiging desisyon ni Pangulo tungkol dito (We have presented some options to President Duterte so let’s just wait for his decision),” he said.

According to Nograles, co-chair of the IATF, they included in their letter to the Chief Executive the supposed benefits of extending or lifting the deployment ban that was declared in April this year to address the labor shortage amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that the discussion in the IATF about the fate of overseas Filipino health workers has always been ongoing.

Senators Risa Hontiveros and Joel Villanueva have earlier urged the government to lift its overseas deployment ban on health workers because it was unfair to those who have worked hard and invested much in applying for jobs abroad.

Meanwhile, Nograles urged health workers and those who currently have no work to apply for a job in the government, saying the Department of Health (DoH) is currently hiring medical frontliners.

“So kung naghahanap po kayo ng trabaho, puwede po kayong mag-apply sa DoH (if you’re looking for a job, you can apply at the DoH),” he said.

The former lawmaker said that the government is in need of more medical frontliners as it adds more isolation quarantine facilities.

“Maraming mga pagkakataon, mga opportunities, para sa mga health workers na ma-hire po ng government (There are a lot of opportunities for our health workers to be hired by the government),” Nograles said.

“Sana po ay mag-apply kayo dito sa mga vacancies natin at makatulong din po kayo dito sa laban against COVID-19 (I hope you will apply for these vacancies so you can help in the fight against COVID-19),” he added.
