Cop in hostage, shooting incident faces probe

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has ordered an investigation against a police officer who held his teenage son and fellow officers at gunpoint that led to a shooting incident inside his house Thursday.

In a statement late Thursday, QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo ordered a probe against Lt. Emmanuel Jovero, detailed at the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit-Directorate for Personnel and Records Management of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Montejo also ordered probers to look into the criminal and administrative liabilities of Jovero.

Injured during the alleged shooting incident were Jovero’s neighbor, Pat. Nurruhudin Salahudin and Corporals John Mark Forayo and Romeo Tandayu who responded to the crime scene.

The police said Jovero suddenly held Salahudin and another neighbor, Pat. Romesly Destura, at gunpoint at around 6:30 a.m. inside his house in Barangay Bagong Lipunan.

"Pat. Salahudin heard a loud noise outside his room. He went out and saw Lt. Jovero uneasy while holding his sling bag. Upon seeing him, Jovero accused Salahudin without any reason and pointed his gun at him and hold the victim together with their neighbor Pat. Romesyl Destura at the comfort room," the police report said.

Forayo and Tandayu of the Cubao Police Station who were dispatched to the crime scene ordered Jovero to surrender.

"Instead, the suspect grabbed his son and used him as human shield as he opened gunfire towards the policemen," police said, resulting in the wounding of Jovero and the responding officers.

Jovero ran to the comfort room where Salahudin and Destura were, allegedly pointed his gun at Salahudin but the latter managed to grab the firearm resulting in a scuffle.

Jovero's son was reportedly injured in the knee when the gun went off.

The suspect and the wounded victims were rushed to the PNP General Hospital for treatment.
