Philippine Airlines (PAL) was named among the Top 10 airlines with the highest safety credentials for travel during coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
PAL is among 150 airlines audited on its COVID-19 safety credentials by Safe Travel Barometer, a comprehensive database for COVID-19 traveler health and safety protocols. It is an independent subsidiary of travel industry advisory and consulting firm VIDEC.
The flag carrier secured a rating of 4.2 out of 5. Five is the highest score.
“We are grateful for the unexpected recognition, and honored to be recognized for doing the right thing. PAL shall continue to maintain the highest standards of safety and the protection of the health of our colleagues and all the passengers in our care,” PAL President and Chief Operating Officer Gilbert Santa Maria said.
PAL’s safe travel score tied with China Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, AirAsia Malaysia, and UAE’s Emirates.
Lufthansa topped the list with a rating of 4.5, followed by Vistara, Delta Airlines, and Allegiant Air with a rating of 4.4. Alaska Airlines also made in the top 10 list with a score of 4.1.
The rating system provided a score for each stage of the travel journey such as pre-flight, actual flight, and post flight. It also includes the COVID-19 related hygiene and safety measures announced by airlines for travelers and its crews.
“The fundamental premise of Safe Travel Score is to benchmark travel brands’ initiatives to reduce traveller anxiety,” said the co-founder and chief executive of Safe Travel Virendra Jain. (With a report from Ariel Fernandez)
