Jimmy Alapag on Saturday confirmed the possibility of moving to the United States to pursue coaching opportunities.
“It is something that we’re thinking about,” Alapag said in the episode of the 2OT podcast.
The Alab Pilipinas coach and San Miguel Beer assistant added that the suspension of games in the country due to COVID-19 has prompted him and his growing family to consider making a move.
Alapag saw Alab’s campaign in the ASEAN Basketball League cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the same reason that forced the suspension of the PBA Philippine Cup after the Beermen’s 94-78 win over the Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok.
“With so much uncertainty around the world, here in our country especially from a sport and basketball landscape, it is something we’re thinking about,” added Alapag.
Alapag also said that he has reached out with contacts from the Sacramento Kings and the NBA and G-League regarding some opportunities. It would be recalled that the PBA and Gilas Pilipinas great had a stint as an assistant of the Kings in the NBA Summer League.
“I have reached out to my contacts from Sacramento and other people I know around the NBA and the G-League to see what opportunities there might be,” he said. “We don’t know yet what direction will go, but the feedback that I got has been very, very positive.
“You know, we’ll see. Still a lot of things happening. The NBA’s still in the Playoffs, they haven’t made any announcements in terms of next season but it’s definitely a possibility so we’ll see.”
The possible move came at a time when Alapag and wife LJ Moreno announced that they're expecting a fourth child.
