Though the amount of money that was stolen was not considerable, security arrangements at the Capitol will be reviewed to prevent similar incident from happening again, said Police Col. Roderick Mariano, chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office.

Based on the footages captured by security cameras, a man broke into the room housing the social welfare and accounting offices by destroying a piece of plywood that was used to cover the hole intended for an air-conditioning unit.

The burglar then proceeded to the accounting office, and took cash from drawers.

“The money stolen was owned by some employees,” said Mariano.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia immediately held a meeting with some Capitol personnel after the burglary was discovered.

Despite the incident, Mariano said the Capitol building, located in Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City, remained safe.

Aside from blue guards securing the Capitol, an alert team from the Special Weapons and Tactics is also stationed at the compound.

“We will revisit our security operations and if needed, we will deploy more personnel at the Capitol,” Mariano said.
