COVID-19 case tally breaches 169,000; 91.5 per cent ‘mild’, says DOH


The Philippines' tally for confirmed cases of COVID-19 breached 169,000 on Tuesday, August 18.

There were 4,836 new people who have been infected with COVID-19, pushing the country’s total number of  cases to 169,213. Of the total figure, 53,665 cases are active or who are still receiving medical care. 

The DOH said that 91.5 percent of the active cases are mild, 6.2 percent are asymptomatic, 0.9 percent are severe cases, and 1.3 percent are in critical condition.

Metro Manila still logged the most number of new cases at 2,959. Laguna came in second with 321 new infections, Cavite with 220, Rizal with 185, and Bulacan with 145. 

Seven other patients died, raising the death toll to 2,687. The DOH said that the new deaths have occurred this month. 

The DOH likewise announced 182 new recoveries. This brought the total number of recoveries to 112,861. 

“There were 97 duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, 76 were recovered and one death have been removed. These numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation,” the DOH noted. 

The DOH said that the figures reported on Tuesday were based on data submitted by 84 out of the 105 operational laboratories.
